Suspicious fire burns home

Just hours after a mobile home went up in flames in West Kelowna early Saturday morning, a mobile home north of Salmon Arm burned to the ground, a blaze fire officials consider suspicious.

The home, located in the Bastion Mobile Village in Sunnybrae, caught fire just before 5 a.m. Saturday morning, damaging two adjacent homes.

The Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department rushed to the mobile home park, which was only 1.5 kilometres from the fire hall.

The fire began in the home that was completely destroyed, which was vacant. The occupant of the home had recently passed away.

While the one home was completely lost, fire crews fought hard to save the other two homes, which suffered minor exterior damage.

“The RCMP are taking the file here because we do think it is suspicious,” said Kenn Mount, regional fire chief of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District. “There's a high degree of probability of it being suspicious.”
