A $1,000 reward is being offered for information in the killing – and then burning – of a black bear in the Shuswap.
The Fur-Bearers is offering the reward for information leading to a conviction in the case of the bear, which was found shot, burned and dumped in a gravel pit in Tappen.
The B.C. Conservation Officer Service is investigating the case after a member of the public made the grisly discovery of the decomposing remains.
The dead bear was left whole, in violation of a law that requires hunters to remove all edible portions of an animal.
“It is disturbing that someone is out there believing they can treat wildlife in this way,” says Lesley Fox, executive director of The Fur-Bearers. “We are hopeful that the reward may provide incentive for individuals with knowledge of what occurred to come forward and assist the Conservation Officer Service in their investigation.”

Shandy Sim found the dead bear on April 17 in the Skimikin pit.
"I have never really seen a bear before, and to see one like this was absolutely disgusting," she told Castanet. "The blood still looked fresh, I couldn't believe it."
