Murder victim identified

RCMP have named the victim in a June 25 homicide in the Shuswap.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit is publicly naming victim John Vance in an effort to ascertain his movements in the hours prior to his death in the Scotch Creek shooting, near Chase.

RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the 4100 block of Squilax-Anglemont Road about 5:45 a.m. June 25.

Officers found an adult male shooting victim who subsequently died of his wounds.

A second man was taken into custody and has since been released unconditionally while the investigation continues.

Vance was 32 years old and a resident of the Scotch Creek area.

Police named Vance in an effort to advance their investigation, says Staff Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or interacted with Vance during the early morning hours of Friday, June 25 to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact RCMP at 1-877-987-8477.
