Hunakwa Lake wildfire moving away from homes in Seymour Arm

Fire moves in right direction

The Hunakwa Lake wildfire burning near the north end of Shuswap Lake is moving away from the community of Seymour Arm.

In a Wednesday afternoon update, the Shuswap Emergency program says the fire remains 1,100 hectares in size.

Despite the shift, Seymour Arm remains under evacuation alert.

Crews have been working this week on building a fire guard near the community.

Columbia Shuswap Regional District fire crews are assisting with fire protection and the deployment of structural protection units.
