Merritt and Princeton evacuees welcome to pick up donated items from SD83 students

Toys, games for evacuees

Students from School District 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) have donated toys and books for Merritt and Princeton flood evacuees.

Donated items including books, games, puzzles, and stuffies are available for free to any evacuee who would like them, the school district says.

Evacuees can drop in to the Education Support Centre at 341 Shuswap St., Salmon Arm between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

District Principal Val Edgell, who spent some years as an educator in Merritt, thanked classes at Shuswap Middle School for organizing the donations.

“We want to help in any way we can. Hopefully, this will give the kids some things to do while they are displaced from home,” says Edgell.

Teacher Laureen Mayer is also organizing a gingerbread house making afternoon for evacuees.

The event will be held at the Education Support Centre Tuesday at 3 p.m. Text 250-804-5733 to ensure there are enough supplies.

The district reminds parents they are welcome to sign their children up to attend school in SD83 while they are evacuated.
