Chase RCMP: Escaped patient returned, no monsters under the bed

Escaped patient returned

Chase RCMP searched for an escaped psychiatric patient earlier this month.

They were notified Oct. 11 that the patient had escaped from medical transport en route to the Lower Mainland from Alberta.

The patient had been permitted a brief restroom break without an escort and had seized the opportunity to flee, says Sgt. Barry Kennedy.

RCMP were requested to assist in locating the patient and warned that the patient had a history of aggression toward police.

Kamloops Police Dog Services were also called in.

The patient eventually returned to the medical transport vehicle of his own accord, and police escorted the subject to the nearest hospital.

In the early hours of Oct. 16, Chase RCMP were also called to a local motel to investigate a suspicious situation.

The complainant was convinced there was someone under his bed and was hiding in the bathroom while waiting for police.

Officers "summoned the courage" to check under the bed, says Kennedy, and found nothing underneath it.

"No monsters under the bed ... this time."
