Hwy. 1 reopened through Chase after 20-hour closure due to geotechnical investigation

Chase Hwy 1 closure ends

The Trans-Canada Highway has reopened to traffic through Chase after a near 20-hour closure due to a geotechnical investigation.

DriveBC reports Highway 1 was cleared as of about 10 a.m. Thursday.

The highway was suddenly closed between Shuswap Avenue and Coburn Street about 2 p.m. Wednesday, with drivers warned to expect major delays.

On Wednesday, traffic that was backed up around the site of the closure was permitted to redirect through the Village of Chase.

Village CAO Joni Heinrich said she was notified the highway had been closed due to a geotechnical issue. The nature of that issue has not been disclosed.
