I'm Not Hurt: Naslund

  • Markus Naslund has denied reports that he's been playing with an injured elbow. The Vancouver Sun reported Friday the Canucks captain has been playing with a hyper-extended left elbow for the last month but following practice Friday, Naslund denied that he's having troubles.
According to Naslund, the report was misinterpreted after Swedish reporters asked the winger about his injured elbow. Today, Naslund told TSN that he hasn't had any treatment on the elbow in quit some time while Canucks head coach Marc Crawford said it's been weeks since he's had his elbow looked at.
  • A Czech prosecutor has decided not to press charges against Detroit Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek for injuring a player during an amateur in-line hockey game, officials said Friday.
  • Kevin Sutherland took advantage of calm conditions early Friday to take the lead at The Players Championship. Mike Weir of Bright's Grove, Ont., has missed the cut after shooting a second-round 3-over 75 at The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
  • The Atlanta Braves now have a backup plan in case closer John Smoltz has more elbow problems. The Braves traded two pitching prospects Friday for right-hander Chris Reitsma of Calgary, who filled every role on the Cincinnati Reds' staff but never found his niche.
  • Canada's men's team finished a worst-ever fifth at the world junior curling championships after losing 7-4 to South Korea in a tiebreaker Friday.
  • Scott Dixon wasn't the fastest driver but he certainly didn't embarrass himself, posting the fourth fastest time out of eight drivers at Friday's Formula One test session in France. Dixon was less than a second off the pace set by Jenson Button and 4-10ths of a second back of BMW-Williams regular Ralf Schumacher.
  • Cars driven by Jamie McMurray and Larry Foyt were confiscated by NASCAR on Friday after an inspection for this weekend's race found the rear windows too big.
