- The Canadian junior hockey team got a lead and didn't take its foot off the gas this time in a 8-1 thumping of Sweden on Monday at the world junior hockey championship.
Canada (2-0) was guilty of easing up in an opening 7-3 win over Slovakia, but put in a sustained effort from beginning to end against the Swedes (1-1).
In other games Monday, it was: U.S. 6, Switzerland 4 Russia 4, Czech Republic 1 and Slovakia 2, Finland 0.

- Lori-Ann Muenzer was named Female Athlete of the Year on Monday by the Canadian Press and Broadcast News. The 38-year-old Muenzer, who trains in Edmonton, became the first Canadian woman to win gold in cycling at the Athens Games.Full story
