Sally Ann short of goal

Vernon area residents have been generous but the Salvation Army is asking people to dig a little deeper into their pockets to help out.

The community had raised approximately $219,000 by Wednesday morning but the goal is $500,000.

"We are thrilled with the response from our community and can’t thank them enough. We are at 44 per cent of our goal," said Lt. Stefan Reid, manager of the House of Hope.

But Reid points out there are only nine days left in the Christmas fundraising campaign, money which will used throughout 2018.

"This money is used throughout the year to help with our food hampers, women’s, men’s and children’s programs, referrals to addiction counselling, emergency disaster services and so many more new programs that are scheduled to start this year."

Reid is urging people to sign up for kettle shifts to ring bells or donate online at www.vernonhouseofhope.com. People are also encouraged to drop off donations at The Salvation Army House of Hope location.
