Sovereign Lake thanks community for support of nationals

No nationals for Vernon

The 2020 Canadian Ski Championships unfortunately fell victim to the COVID-19 pandemic cancellations, which were set for March 25 at Sovereign Lake.

Nordiq Canada would like to thank everyone who was involved in the large amount of preparation work from the organizing committee, which is a volunteer group of Sovereign Lake Nordic Club members. Hosting the 2021 nationals at Sovereign Lake were considered, but Nordiq Canada had already committed next year's nationals to Mont Ste. Anne in Quebec. Nordiq Canada felt it was best to honour the initial commitment to Mont Ste. Anne.

"Sovereign Lake’s Organizing Committee wants to express disappointment in losing their opportunity to host Canada’s top Nordic skiers in their final race of the season," says the SNLC in a press release. "The OC would also like to express a huge thank you to the City of Vernon, and the Regional District of North Okanagan for providing grant dollars to help make this event possible. The OC felt supported and realizes it couldn’t have happened without their support."

The SNLC will be partially refunding athlete’s registrations, and fully refunding trail pass purchases and banquet tickets, and all sponsorship and grant dollars will be entirely reimbursed.

The SNLC Board of Directors is now working on hosting the BC Provincial Championships next February.
