Vernon dentist's 'relaxation suite' can help beat stress

The queen of calm

A Vernon dentist's cutting-edge "relaxation suite" was inspired by her own father's battle with cancer.

Created by Dr. Lise Kalinski, the suite's treatment tools were designed for her dental patients, Kalinski is offering use of the room for anyone fighting the mental and physical stresses of cancer at a reduced fee.

During her father’s battle with an inoperable brain tumour, the dentist pledged to do more to help others fighting cancer. Her first-of-its-kind relaxation suite uses the NuCalm/Bemer relaxation stress-relief system.

Kalinski uses daily herself to decompress, and at her Aesthetic Dental Clinic, to help patients deal with dental anxiety.

She has four units in her office operatories as well as the new suite.

Kalinski is one of only three certified NuCalm practitioners in Canada. The four-part system involves a topical cream, micro-current stimulation, neuroacoustic software/music, and an eye mask.

"The field of psychoneuroimmunology is now looking at alternative ways to target cancer with a bigger focus on mental and emotional factors," says Kalinski.

She says the treatment "can help alleviate some of the psychological and physiological effects and improve one’s quality of life by putting the brakes on the stress response, giving the person peace of mind, clarity, balance and improved sleep quality.”

Kalinski asks each of her patients if they would like to begin their appointment with a 20-minute free session.  About 50% say ‘yes.’  Perhaps most telling, 90% of prior users request it on successive visits.

In addition to treating cancer patients, Kalinski, has started a punch pass program for anyone to use: One 30-minute session costs $55. A 10-visit pass costs $32.50 per visit.
