There have been some changes at the North Okanagan fire training centre, but the level of training offered will remain the same.
All member jurisdictions have dropped out of the training centre function, leaving the facility under the control of the Regional District of North Okanagan.
Mike Fox, RDNO community services manager, says the model has changed, “but what we are offering really hasn't.”
Fox said Vernon was previously running the regional training centre under contract, and all that has changed is now the RDNO will be running it.
“What we are going to be trying to do is the same as it's always been, make sure that we offer high-level training for volunteer firefighters,” said Fox.
“Vernon, over the years, has developed all of the training courses, and we have a close relationship with Vernon ... they are going to be passing all those courses over to us, and we will probably be using all of the same instructors.”
