Outbreak at Vernon's Creekside Landing care home declared over

Care home outbreak over

More than seven weeks after it was first declared, the COVID-19 outbreak at Vernon's Creekside Landing long-term care home has been declared over.

In total, 25 residents and 15 staff at the Vernon care home contracted the virus, and tragically, two residents died.

The second death at the care home occurred recently, as Interior Health was reporting just one death at the care home as of Tuesday.

“I want to thank the team at Creekside Landing who worked hard with public health to manage this challenging outbreak,” said Susan Brown, Interior Health president and CEO.

“While it’s a relief to see this outbreak come to a close, we also send our condolences to the loved ones and caregivers of those who passed away.”

Creekside Landing is a privately owned and operated care home that has 70 publicly funded long-term care beds, along with separate assisted living and independent living residences. Only the long-term care part of the facility was impacted by the outbreak.

As of Feb. 15, 88 of the facility's 93 residents had received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

There remains active outbreaks at five other Interior care homes.
