'Sex trade worker beware' spray painted on Salmon River Road near farm where Curtis Sagmoen lives

Sex-trade worker warning

Someone has spray painted a warning to sex-trade workers on Salmon River Road.

In bright red paint, 'Sex trade worker beware' has been scrawled across the road not far from a farm where Curtis Sagmoen lives.

Sagmoen has been in trouble with the law several times in recent years and prompted a public police warning last year that sex trade workers should stay away from the area.

Last year, he was convicted of running over a sex-trade worker with a quad. In a separate incident involving a sex-trade worker, Sagmoen was found guilty of disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence, using a firearm during an offence, and possession of methamphetamine.

Sagmoen is currently facing charges of assaulting a police officer. He has yet to enter a plea on the latest charges, but is expected to be in Vernon court March 18.

While the spray-painted message is hardly an official warning, police have warned sex-trade workers about not going to the farm. In October 2020, RCMP issued a warning to any person who works in the sex trade not to respond to any requests for services and not to engage in any activity in the Salmon River Road area.

Sagmoen is bound by a court order specifying he is prohibited from having contact with any sex trade worker, escort or person offering paid dating or companion services.

The warning came shortly after police attended the farm in October 2020, after a neighbour reported suspicious activity.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said at the time, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle and persons parked near a residence on the 2000 block of Salmon River Road.

"Our investigation determined the people associated to the vehicle were connected to the sex trade, and their services were requested in the area," said Terleski.

In October 2017, police searched the Sagmoen farm and found the remains of Traci Genereaux.

Police said the death of the Vernon teen is suspicious, but no charges have been filed.
