Repairs to Baxter Bridge near Enderby delayed, says ministry

Baxter work hits delays

Repair work on the Baxter Bridge near Enderby has hit some delays.

Planned closures on the Shuswap River crossing won't begin until at least Friday, says area bridge manager Chad Marsh with the Ministry of Transportation.

They had been scheduled to start on Monday.

The work on the Trinity Valley Road bridge will include repairs to piles under the bridge and replacement of structural components.

This follows an extended closure last year due to serious structural issues on the aging structure.

The bridge, which is primarily made of timber, was built in 1950 and is nearing the end of its service lifespan, the Ministry of Transportation says.

A modern, two-lane steel and concrete replacement is planned.
