Falkland residents raising money for single mom battling cancer

Help for mom with cancer

Falkland community members are raising money for a single mom diagnosed with cancer.

Brandon Gunn says his sister-in-law, Jodi, was diagnosed in the fall and says her “outlook isn’t the best.”

Jodi has two children and works as a health care aid to support her family, says Gunn.

She is an active member of the Falkland Elementary School Parent Advisory Council and helps wherever she can.

“She rarely asks for help and had to be sent to the doctor because she was too busy with her kids to take care of her needs,” says Gunn.

“The community of Falkland and members of PAC have really banded behind Jodi.”

The mother has to travel around the Okanagan to keep up with her treatments and testing.

“We have been driving to Kelowna for treatment, Armstrong for testing, and Vernon for appointments at least a couple times a week,” says Gunn.

A teacher at Falkland Elementary and some of Jodi’s friends began an auction through Facebook to help raise funds to support Jodi during her treatment.

“All items are generously donated in hopes to raise money for Jodi during this difficult time,” reads a post from the auction page.
