Armstrong eyes tax hike

Armstrong residents could see their municipal taxes go up by almost six per cent next year.

Armstrong council will consider its 2022 financial plan at special meeting on Wednesday.

The public is invited to provide input on a proposed budget that would see residential taxes increase by 5.93 per cent and business taxes increase by 5.16 per cent, on the average property.

Included in those increases are a three per cent general tax hike, with the bulk of the remainder taken up by an RCMP levy increase following the unionization of the force and an infrastructure levy for future projects.

In 2021, the average homeowner paid $1,056 in residential taxes. That would go up to $1,118 in 2022 – an increase of $62.

The average business paid $3,883 in 2021, and would see that go up $200 to $4,084 for 2022.

The budget would continue current service levels.

The largest capital project on the books is a new City Hall, budgeted at $5,076,560.

The public can attend the budget meeting in person or via zoom. It begins at 5 p.m.
