Talent search on for act to perform at Vernon Ribfest in July

Rockin' the Ribfest

There will be more than tasty cuts of beef at the upcoming Vernon Ribfest.

The popular event was put on hold for two years because of COVID concerns, but will be back July 8 to 10 at the Vernon Curling Club.

And along with some of the tastiest ribs to tempt your belly, there will also be live entertainment.

Jeff Johnson of Bailey Way Entertainment says the headliner will be the North Okanagan's own Young'uns.

“They have been an Okanagan staple for a long time,” Johnson says.

Also performing will be the Dirt Road Kings as well as Vernon magician Leif David.

“We have a ton of entertainment,” Johnson says.

But, organizers are looking for another act and will be holding a talent contest June 5, 12 and 19 at the Longhorn Pub in Vernon to fill the final Ribfest slot.

Shalisa, the Brian Turner Trio, and the Kris Anders Band are slated to perform this Sunday, and other hopefuls have until June 7 to get their applications in for the June 12 event.

Tickets $10 at the door, with bands starting at 7 p.m.

“Rockin' the Ribfest is a local talent competition. We're hosting three bands a night with the winner to open for the Young'uns,” Johnson says.

The winning band will also receive a free consultation with Johnson, a five-year consecutive winner of the BCCMA Producer of the Year award, Juno-nominated Pop Album of the Year producer, and CCMA producer of the year.
