Vernon businessman and former hockey coach will be in court Oct. 3 to set date for sexual assault sentencing

The saga of a former Vernon hockey coach continues with Keith Chase waiting to be sentenced on sexual assault charges.

The local businessman was found guilty earlier this year of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in an incident that happened in 2004, when he was in his mid-30s.

Chase will be back in court Oct. 3 to set a date for sentencing.

During submissions before Justice Gary Weatherill in Vernon Supreme Court Sept. 9, Crown counsel asked for a sentence of two to four years in jail.

Defence lawyer Nicholas Jacob asked for a two-year conditional sentence.

Jacob said if that was denied by Weatherill, he would ask for a jail term of no more than nine months.
