Another mayoralty candidate has signs vandalized

Anderson blasts vandalism

A challenger for the mayor's office in Vernon is condemning criminal acts in the city.

Scott Anderson blasted recent campaign sign vandalism against all candidates.

"We are fortunate to live in a democracy,” said the two-term councillor, who's now running for mayor.

"The ballot box is where we should be contesting the election, not our city's boulevards."

Anderson says he has had several signs destroyed and knocked down in various locations across the city.

"I can't ask my opponents' supporters to stop defacing my signs, but I will ask that if you support me, please refrain from defacing or destroying my opponent’s signs," Anderson said in a statement to media.

"I understand that tensions are running high ... but I want to remind everyone that tampering with an election sign is illegal."

The incidents follow a similar act of vandalism against signs for incumbent Victor Cumming.
