Vernon and Coldstream transit riders won't be getting a new route in the Middleton Mountain area as planned.
Route No. 10 was supposed to start in September 2022, but financial issues have cancelled the route until next year.
City of Vernon spokesperson Christy Poirier says implementing the route was postponed because the February 2022 provincial budget didn't accommodate any service expansions.
BC Transit then proposed that the expansion start in January 2024.
Council supported the recommendation, and now BC Transit is seeking to secure funding from the province.
The new route would add 2,600 additional transit service hours and additional statutory holiday service.
Coldstream council also passed a resolution to approve the changes Sept. 27, 2021.
A report to Vernon council in August 2022 said the introduction of the new route would align with 2022-25 priority service improvements listed in its Transit Future Action Plan.
The plan was endorsed by council in December 2021.
