Kamloops Blazers sign first round draft pick Kaden Hammell

Blazers sign prospect

The Kamloops Blazers have signed their first round draft pick from the recent WHL bantam draft.

Kaden Hammell has signed with the team, the Blazers announced in a press release today (May 7). The offensive defenseman was the 19th overall pick in the draft on April 22.

"He has an excellent combination of skating, skill, hockey sense and compete along with a strong presence, which will be a great addition to our organization," says Blazers GM Matt Bardsley.

Originally from Langley, Haden played last season with the West Vancouver Bantam Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, according to the release. With 12 goals and 41 points, he was third in overall scoring by defensemen.

"We are very excited to get Kaden. He can play the game anyway you like. He has great skill, and moves the puck well. Great both ways offensively and defensively. He also has an edge to his game," Robbie Sandland, the Blazers' director of player personnel, says in a press release after the draft.
