Kamloops Blazers overager Brodi Stuart to coach after suffering injury

Stuart joins Blazers staff

Brodi Stuart has played his last game with the Kamloops Blazers.

The 20-year-old winger from Langley underwent season-ending surgery last month, the team announced this week, and will spend the potential upcoming Western Hockey League campaign as an assistant coach.

“Brodi had suffered an off-season injury that required surgery and the timeline for his rehab would not allow him to play this season,” Blazers general manager Matt Bardsley said in a press release.

“In discussing with our head coach, Shaun Clouston, we decided to place Brodi on the injured list and ask him to stay with us as an assistant coach for the 2020-2021 season.”

Stuart, a fourth round pick from the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, played 204 games with the Blazers, notching 115 points.

“Brodi has been a Blazer since he was drafted and has been an integral part of our team in all areas,” stated Bardsley.

“We felt this was a positive way that he could continue with us and assist our coaching staff.”

For Stuart, staying with the hockey club and contributing in a mentorship role is the second-best thing to playing.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Blazers and wish I could play my final season of junior hockey,” Stuart said.

“I’m excited and grateful to have the opportunity to stay on this season in an assistant coach role. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season.”
