Kelowna Rockets forward out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Monday

Surgery for Rocket Ernst

The Kelowna Rockets likely won't have the services of forward Ethan Ernst for the balance of the shortened Western Hockey League season.

Ernst underwent surgery Monday to repair a scaphoid fracture.

The team said the procedure was successful.

The Rockets say Ernst suffered the hand injury late in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Vancouver Giants, and not as the result of a second period fight with Nicco Camazzola.

Meantime, all team activities remain suspended after a member of the hockey staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The positive test forced the postponement of Tuesday game between the Rockets and Kamloops Blazers.

Games against Prince George Friday and Victoria Saturday remain on the schedule pending results of further tests.
