Tournament Capital product Logan Stankoven is one of 25 players named Thursday to Hockey Canada's U18 men’s national team — a high honour for the second-year Kamloops Blazers forward.
Team Canada and 17-year-old Stankoven will compete at the IIHF U18 World Championships in Frisco and Plano, Texas, between April 26 and May 6.
Through two games so far in the 2020-2021 Western Hockey League season, Stankoven has notched three goals and four points.
Last year, Stankoven managed 29 goals and 19 assists for 48 points in 59 games, where he also tied a franchise record for the most goals by a 16-year-old — a mark that might have been broken had the season not been shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wearing the Maple Leaf is not new for Stankoven. He played in the U17 World Hockey Challenge in 2017, scoring four goals in five games.
Stankoven will have to start self-isolation on April 12 before travelling to the tournament, meaning his last game for the Blazers this shortened WHL season will likely be April 11 against Victoria.
Stankoven is eligible for this year's NHL Draft.
He is expected to lace up Thursday as the Blazers host the Prince George Cougars as part of a revised WHL schedule due to positive cases of COVID-19 among the Kelowna Rockets players and staff.
