Stankoven scores twice, adds two assists in overtime win for first-place Blazers

Blazers top Royals 4-3 in OT

Logan Stankoven scored twice and added two assists in a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win Saturday for the Kamloops Blazers over the Victoria Royals.

A pair of goals from Brayden Schuurman had Victoria up 2-0 with five minutes to play in the opening frame, but Orrin Centazo got the Blazers on the board at 16:23 on the power play from Connor Zary and Stankoven.

The Blazers added another one late in the first when Stankoven beat Victoria netminder Adam Evanoff to tie the game from Centazzo and Josh Pillar.

Ty Yoder scored unassisted for the Royals midway through the second, but the Pillar tied things back up with five to play in the final period in an empty Prospera Place.

Stankoven ended it at 1:39 over overtime from Inaki Bargano and Dylan Garand, who stopped 16 of 19 Victoria shots for the win, improving his record to a perfect 4-0.

The Blazers are also 4-0, all alone atop the WHL B.C. Division standings as the only team with a zero in the loss column.

Kamloops is back in action on Friday, when the Royals will head north from the Kelowna hub for a 7 p.m. rematch at Sandman Centre.

The division schedule was altered last week after a number of positive COVID-19 tests among Kelowna Rockets players and staff.
