Blazers remain undefeated with 3-2 win over Victoria Royals

Blazers hang on for 3-2 win

The Kamloops Blazers improved to a perfect 3-0 on the young Western Hockey League season with a 3-2 win Tuesday over the Victoria Royals in the provincial capital.

Blazers D-man Marko Stacha opened the scoring four minutes into the first period, burying his third of the season from Dylan Sydor and Tye Spencer.

Matthew Seminoff made it 2-0 late in the first and Caedan Bankier’s power-play marker put the Blazers up 3-0 mid-way through the second period.

But the Royals made a game of it, scoring twice in the third — Bailey Peach and Wyatt Wilson, four minutes apart — to make it a 3-2 final.

Dylan Garand made 16 saves on 18 Victoria shots for the win in net, his third of the season. Tyler Palmer stopped 39 of the 42 shots he faced in the loss.

The Blazers and the Vancouver Giants (2-0) are the only undefeated teams remaining in the B.C. Division. With the loss Tuesday, the Royals fall to 1-3.

The two teams will face off again on Wednesday in Victoria.
