Winterhawks score late in overtime to beat Blazers 3-2

Blazers lose in Portland

A 41-save performance from Michael Schnattinger wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Kamloops Blazers, with the Portland Winterhawks taking a 3-2 overtime victory at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in the Rose City on Saturday night.

Matthew Seminoff and Daylan Kuefler were the goal scorers for the Blazers, while Marcus Nguyen, Luca Cagnoni and Ryan McCleary scored for the Winterhawks.

Seminoff scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Logan Stankoven at 6:33 of the first period. Kuefler scored a power play goal at 13:53, which was answered by Portland's Nguyen at 19:41.

The Winterhawks tied the score at 2:30 of the second, with McLeary scoring the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in overtime.

The Winterhawks’ Jan Spunar stopped 32 of 34 Blazers shots. Schnattinger stopped 41 of 44 Portland shots in the loss.

Announced attendance at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum was 4,209.

With the loss, the Blazers now stand at 9-4-3-1 on the season. Portland sits at 16-1-1-1.

The Blazers will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Kennewick, Wash., to take on the Tri-City Americans (8-11-0-0). Their next home game will be on Friday, Nov. 25 when the Moose Jaw Warriors (13-8-0-0) visit Sandman Centre.
