Helicopter plucks injured hiker off Pincushion Mountain

Heli rescue on Pincushion

UPDATE: 9:45 a.m.

Search and Rescue crews were airlifted an injured hiker from Pincushion Mountain near Peachland Friday afternoon, just before 4 p.m.

The woman was about 30 minutes up the Pincushion Mountain Trail when she slipped, resulting in a "severe lower leg injury."

Due to the steep terrain she was in, and the severity of the injury, Penticton and District Search & Rescue chose to use their Helicopter Long line rescue team to remove her from the trail.

"The air crew were able to quickly located the female hiker and airlift her out to a nearby ambulance unit where she was transported to Kelowna Regional Hospital for treatment," PENSAR's Randy Brown said.

Search and Rescue operations across the province are asking people to be cautious in the backcountry during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Brown says search and rescue teams responded to 19 calls last week across B.C., which is down slightly from the same week last year.
