RCMP search for two men accused of stealing a truck Sunday

Truck thieves get away

Two suspects remain on the loose after they allegedly stole a truck in West Kelowna Sunday.

Just after 2 p.m., a grey 2015 GMC Sierra was reported stolen from a home on Smith Creek Road. The truck was believed to have been taken sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

On Monday, West Kelowna RCMP received several reports of the stolen truck being driven erratically in the Central Okanagan.

Monday, the RCMP Air Services helicopter began searching for the stolen truck from the sky, and the vehicle was located just after 6 p.m. off the Bear Lake Forest Service Road.

“Two male occupants were seen inside the pickup truck, but allegedly fled on foot prior to the arrival of frontline officers into the backcountry,” Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release.

Two police dog teams searched the area near the stolen truck but officers were unable to find the suspects.

Officers reportedly told residents in the area to stay inside and keep their doors locked as police searched for the suspects.

The RCMP has asked anyone with information about the theft to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
