Rescue crews lift an injured hiker to safety Sunday evening

Pincushion chopper rescue

UPDATE 2 p.m.

Peachland fire chief Dennis Craig says firefighters, paramedics and search volunteers from the Central and South Okanagan joined forces for a rescue Sunday on Pincushion Mountain.

“We sent a team up initially under the direction of COSAR to get an assessment of the area where the patient actually was,” said Craig.

“Based on the trail conditions at the time it was far safer for the safety of our members, as well as the patient, to have them airlifted out.”

The trail at this time of the year is still “pretty icy” and “slick,” said Craig.

The injured hiker had fallen on the trail. Their condition is not known at this time.

“It was a quick, easy extraction,” Craig said.
