West Kelowna woman rattled after vandals smashed car window

Vandals hit wrong target?

A Westbank woman is frustrated after she believes her car's rear window was wrongly targeted by vandals.

Adrianna Tournat opened up her doors for the past month to a family member who needed a place to stay while they were in the process of securing another home, in the midst of a custody dispute.

“My belief and educated guess is that it was targeted towards him," Tournat said, explaining her neighbours witnessed a black minivan pull into her cul-de-sac and pull into the driveway prior to a loud crash.

"The minivan peeled out the cul-de-sac,” she said, adding the suspect drives a similar vehicle to her neighbour's description.

The incident has left Tournat so rattled, she's afraid to leave her house.

"I don't know if they're going to come back and do it again, so I am afraid to leave my house cause I was away at the time, and I'm concerned if they come back and do more damage," said Tournat.

After going around asking her neighbours for any security footage between the hours of 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, one of her neighbours offered to help out.

“The one neighbour just saw how scared I was, and they actually gave me a security camera, so that I could have some sense of security and feeling of safety which is absolutely amazing. It restored my faith in human beings because this obviously shook that,” said Tournat.

Tournat has reported the incident to the police, but without hard evidence, not much can be done.

"I’ve been taking it upon myself to canvas with my neighbourhood and ask for security footage and come up with a theory. I'm open to having my theory changed but right now, it's really up to me,” said Tournat.

She is hoping that anyone with surveillance cameras facing Elk Road, Elk Ridge Drive, Crown Town Estates, Sage Creek or the intersection of Carrington and Elk will come forward to help the investigation.

If you have any information regarding the incident, you’re being asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP.
