100 meals were prepared for those in need in Peachland on Christmas morning

Meals for those in need

Dinner is cooking for about 100 families in Peachland who otherwise would likely go without.

Volunteers were up bright and early this morning preparing a complete Christmas dinner with turkey and all the fixings for Peachland families not able to prepare dinner for themselves because of "health, social or financial constraints."

Don James, one of those volunteers, says 98 meals were ordered by those in need this holiday season.

"We prepared 100 meals," he told Castanet.

According to James, the tradition began eight years ago when an anonymous benefactor asked Christina McMaster, executive director of the Peachland Wellness Centre how many meals they could prepare for $1,000.

Since then, other service groups in Peachland have joined in the effort.

Dinner was prepared at the Peachland Community Centre.

James says meals are prepared four times each year.
