Regional district bringing pop-up recycling depot to Peachland

Mobile pop-up recycling

The Regional District of Central Okanagan is hosting a pop-up recycling clinic in Peachland.

The one-day pop-up recycling depot will take place at the Recreation Centre parking lot, located at 4450 6th Street, on May 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“We are trial testing these innovative pop-up depot events this year to make recycling more accessible for our residents. As the name suggests, pop-up events are by nature temporary, held in unique spaces, and last for a few hours. Our aim is ultimately to connect with as many residents as possible on a one-on-one basis, to increase recycling awareness, and keep recyclable material from the landfill," said Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator.

The one-day depot event in Peachland will give residents an opportunity to easily recycle their glass bottles, jars, foam packaging, plastic bags and overwrap, and other flexible plastic packaging. Electronics will also be accepted and the pop-up depot is for residential recycling only, not commercial.

Glass, foam packaging and other flexible plastics are not allowed in the curbside collection cart program and residents typically travel to the nearest depots in West Kelowna to properly recycle these items.

There will be four more Saturday pop-up events scheduled for later this year in the District of Lake Country at 3165 Hill Road: June 18, July 16, August 20, and September 17.
