'Senseless and hateful': Swastikas painted on West Kelowna park sign

Swastika on park sign

A display of racism at Kalamoir Park in West Kelowna.

Someone has spray-painted multiple swastikas on and around a sign in the park and on the ground.

At least four swastikas are visible in the photo provided to Castanet.

"So disappointed to see this… senseless and hateful," said a resident who sent Castanet a photo of the graffiti.

Kalamoir Regional Park runs along the shores of Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna. There are beaches, a swimming platform, off-leash dog beaches, and an accessible dock for launching canoes and kayaks.

Spokesperson for the Regional District of Central Okanagan Bruce Smith says staff are cleaning up the vandalism.

“Our regional parks belong to everyone in the Central Okanagan. We all have a stake in keeping them safe and enjoyable. Unfortunately, this senseless vandalism diverts staff resources from other tasks. Our staff are removing the graffiti and we thank those people who contacted us to let us know about this vandalism,” said Smith.
