Keith Fielding seeks return to mayor's chair in Peachland

3rd name enters mayor race

Peachland district councillor Keith Fielding wants the mayor’s chair back.

Fielding has filed papers to run for mayor, according to the municipality’s website.

He served as Peachland’s mayor for two terms between 2008 and 2014, before being defeated by current mayor Cindy Fortin. He then won a council seat in 2018 and has retained it since.

Some of Fielding’s listed priorities are fiscal responsibility, managed growth, downtown revitalization, open and respectful governance and climate change mitigation.

He also says he’ll advocate on two other topics outside the municipality’s jurisdiction: the four-laning of Highway 97 and control over the community’s watershed.

Fielding is running up against incumbent Fortin, who is seeking a third term, and sitting councillor Patrick Van Minsel.

Van Minsel released his platform on Tuesday morning, focusing “balanced, moderate approach to development, the delivery of a new, on-budget protective services building and building relationships with all levels of government.”

Six council candidates have so far filed papers to run: Pam Cunningham, Terry Condon, Kevin Bennett, Mike Kent, Keith Thom and Nick Walsh.
