A month of festive family fun begins this week in West Kelowna

Lights, fireworks, family fun

West Kelowna is set to launch a month of festive fun.

The third annual Twinkle Tour launches on Thursday and Light Up takes place on Friday night.

Residents are invited to gather in Westbank, along Brown Road from Main Street to Gossett Road, from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. on Dec. 2. Santa and Mayor Gord Milsom will flip the switch on the downtown holiday lights at 6 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event will include activities for kids, food vendors and on-stage entertainment. You can find a full schedule and a printable event map at westkelownacity.ca/LightUp.

After Light Up, there will be a fireworks display starting at 8:30 p.m. (weather dependent) that will be visible from Westbank and the Gellatly Bay area.

There’s a new addition to the calendar of seasonal events this year. A Polar Pancake Pajama Party for families with children 12 years of age and younger takes place on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Contact the Recreation and Culture Department at 778-797-8800 for more information or to pre-register.

The 2022 Twinkle Tour will include a Most Festive Contest with prizes awarded in four categories:

  • Most festive residence
  • Most festive business
  • Most festive street/cul de sac
  • Most festive other category

The contest entry period will close on Dec. 13. Judging takes place on Dec. 16 and winners will be announced on Dec. 20. You can add your home or business to the Twinkle Tour here. People can also map their tour and download a scavenger hunt.

Between Saturday, Dec. 3 and Monday, Jan. 2, the Mt. Boucherie Recreation complex will host several holiday-themed public skates and Big and Little Skate sessions. Details are in the Winter Rec Guide.
