Driver killed in head-on crash on Highway 97's Drought Hill

Fatal crash on Hwy 97

The driver of a Toyota Corolla was killed Wednesday evening following a crash on Highway 97 in Peachland.

The portion of highway was closed for more than eight hours while police investigated the scene.

According to police, the Toyota was northbound when the vehicle crossed the centre line and crashed head-on into an oncoming tractor trailer.

The driver of the car died at the scene

Traffic analysts are continuing to investigate but believe the driver of the tractor trailer, who was not hurt in the crash, made an attempt to stop.

“At this time the cause of the crash is unknown and is still being investigated,” says Const. Mike Della-Paolera.

“Reports also indicate that a third vehicle was involved that left the scene. That vehicle is described as a black Dodge Caravan which had struck the Corolla after the initial impact with the semi, and then drove off.”

Della-Paolera says police are searching for the third vehicle and ask anyone who may be able to assist in the investigation, including dashcam footage, to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
