DEPOURCQ-LECUYER, Cindy

DEPOURCQ-LECUYER, Cindy

Cindy Michele DePourcq Lécuyer passed away, at the age of 56 years, in the loving arms of her husband and surrounded by family, on May 20, 2023, at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, BC. We are heart broken by the loss of our dear Cindy.

Cindy was born in Penticton, BC on January 13, 1967. She was born with a congenital heart defect which required a life full of doctor exams, tests, and invasive heart procedures. On March 7, 2023, when her heart was failing, Cindy was given the gift of a new heart. By early May 2023, she had progressed to the cardiac rehab ward. Cindy was breathing on her own, starting to eat, standing for brief periods, and able to sit long enough to enjoy excursions out to feel the beautiful Vancouver sun. Unexpectedly over the last week of her life, Cindy developed an infection in her lungs, for which there was no life saving treatment.

Cindy attended elementary school in Summerland, BC and completed her high school education in Penticton. As a teenager and young adult Cindy worked together with her Mom running a concession at the Okanagan College and tirelessly feeding young hockey players at the Okanagan Hockey School throughout many summers. Cindy helped to manage the family business, Personal Touch Catering. She loved working in the food service industry and spent many years providing meal service to the clientele living at the Penticton Retirement Center until she was no longer able to continue to work.

Cindy married Steph in September, 1998. Cindy and Steph enjoyed travelling together. They had such fun going to many places around the country cheering on her nephew, Cody, while he played hockey. They built a beautiful home together where they helped to raise many young hockey billets who needed a home away from home. Cindy loved her “boys” and did everything to help them succeed.

Cindy will be remembered for the amazing courage and fortitude that she displayed throughout her life. She had a wonderful sense of humor which endeared her to all. Cindy was a fabulous cook and just like her Nonna Tuzzi – Emma, and her Mom – Linda. Cindy could make something out of nothing, and it would taste delicious.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Steph Lécuyer; Devoted Mother Linda DePourcq and Brother John DePourcq (Lorri) all of Penticton; Nephew Cody DePourcq (Bella) of Austin, Texas; Cindy was sadly predeceased by her Father, Roy DePourcq, in 2016. Cindy will be forever loved and remembered by all her extended family and friends.

Prayers for Cindy will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Penticton. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 AM on Friday June 2, 2023, also at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Internment will follow at the Summerland Canyon View Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the PACH (Pacific Adult Congenital Heart) program at the St. Paul’s Hospital in honor of Cindy’s lifelong journey. donate.helpstpauls.com/cindy-lecuyer

The family would like to thank all the members of Cindy’s PACH clinic family who cared for her so well over her life – especially Dr. Marla Kiess whom Cindy loved and trusted. To all the amazing physicians and members of Cindy’s transplant team: We thank you for giving Cindy the chance to live and for your wonderful care and compassion shown to Cindy over these last months. We know that she is in heaven baking the cookies she promised you once she was home.

Cindy outlived all expectations since the day she was born. She fought a courageous battle to the very end. We will all miss you, Cindy. Your twinkling eyes, beautiful smile, and courageous spirit will be in our hearts forever.

Please consider giving the gift of life – Be an Organ Donor.

I am deeply saddened to hear this news. It has been years that I have seen Cindy but such a "gem" when I did see her. Remembering all the hockey road trips with our parents to watch our brothers (John and Jackson) play.

I am so, so sorry to hear of your loss. I have been following your updates online and Dana has been keeping me up to date as well. Cindy sure was courageous and strong right until the very end. I got to spend lots of time with Cindy as kids growing up as our families were close and I can’t say enough about what a kind hearted and warm person she was. Her gentle smile would always light up the room. With all the wonderful memories we have of Cindy, she will continue to live on in our hearts, in our thoughts and in our conversations. Cindy, yourself and family have been and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers

I worked with Cindy a long time ago through PDSCL, at Chestnut Place, she made me laugh so much with her zany silly goofiness, she could turn a boring day into one with lots of laughs and giggles. I love how she looked out for me when I was being harassed at work and how she took care of things immediately. I will miss her very very much. - Angela

So sorry to hear of Cindy's passing, I was so hopeful the transplant would extend her time for many more years. I have memories of Cindy (and all us girls), back in the 80's, hanging out at the hockey games, tons of laughter and giggles. I don't recall ever seeing a time where Cindy wasn't smiling. I know she's in good hands, back with her Dad, but sending my love and prayers to all of the family still here. - Leslie Waddell

Although it’s been a few years since I’ve seen Cindy I remember her with great fondness. I had the pleasure of seeing Cindy at many Ongaro events particularly in the 90’s. Cindy always made me feel welcome and just another extended family member. I remember knowing Cindy had a health condition but all I ever saw was a welcoming smile and yes I definitely remember her for having a sense of humour. It was so shocking to hear of health struggles that eventually took her life as her cousin and my Bestfriend Denise had just excitedly told me about her transplant. I am so sorry her battle ended this way. My deepest condolences to her entire family, and her husband Steph. You have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Celena Simms - C Simms
