WARKENTIN, Herman George

WARKENTIN, Herman George

Herman George Warkentin, aka “Herman the German”, born July 23, 1934 passed away May 21, 2023. He is predeceased by his sister Elizabeth and his brothers Ernie and Abe. Herman is survived by his loving wife Joyce; children Sharon (Ossie), Gwen (Allan), Murray, Corinne (Tom), Greg, Bonny (Warren); grandchildren Angie (Warren), Shannon (CJ), Brent (Joanna), Ryan (Steph), Jordan, Kelly (Chad), Kyle (Sharisa), Jesse (Elisa), Mandy (Jesse), Kaylee (Preston), Dayna, Brodie, Larissa (Mike), Nick, Lindsay (David); great grandchildren Ava, Declan, Alexis, Axel, Alexis, Zachary, Emberly, Aurora, Monika, Peyton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman grew up in Saskatchewan and was a pig farmer. Leaving there he moved to Banff where he had a grocery store then made his way to Kelowna and had a laundry business and then Sunburst Irrigation. His schedule always made way for his 11:00 am Social at the Packing House.
Herman is know as a loving and compassionate husband who loved to sing harmony with Joyce, he had an amazing memory for directions, could fix anything being a jack of all trades, and especially enjoyed technology, and of course he was the ultimate sausage maker.
A memorial service will be held at Willow Park Church, on Monday May 29th at 1:00 pm.

When I think about Herman’s passing, I feel sadness, but when I think about Herman the man, I just want to giggle. Herman brought such life into a room with his infectious laugh and undeniable sense of humor. It always brought me such joy when I could say something that made Herman laugh.

Herman, Joyce, Sharon and family welcomed me into their lives and shared their homes with me when I was a very young (homesick) woman starting a new and exciting life in Banff. I truly believe my beautiful life would have turned out very differently without the support, kindness and generosity of the Warkintin family.

We all shared so many amazing times together with the best meals EVER. The memories I have of Herman’s famous sausage, Joyces’s best in the world carrot cake and the rest of the “beast of a feast” that Sharon provided will stay with me forever. My husband Rob, who was lucky enough to share the same experiences, feels exactly the same.

Herman, you will be missed but Rob and I will always remember you for bringing such joy into our lives.

Love, warm thoughts and big hugs from Lori and Rob (Ayearst)
