Kelowna, walk your own way throughout May for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.
Kelowna – In 2021, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s – the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s flagship fundraiser – will be taking place online. Participants are encouraged to walk their own way throughout the month of May, before joining an online celebration on Sunday, May 30.
Even though we are unable to gather physically in person, we can still walk together in spirit. Together, we can celebrate and remember people in our lives who have been affected by dementia, while raising valuable funds and awareness. Now, more than ever, people affected by dementia need our support.

While participants are encouraged to walk in honour of someone dear to them, each community chooses an honouree – a person who has been affected by dementia or who has valuably contributed to the lives of people living with the disease. The Walk in Kelowna honours past Walk Chair Guy Bird and his wife Maureen Bird. Guy shares his perspective below:
As a former Walk Chair and as a couple dealing with the Dementia journey every day, we are keenly aware of the vital support and services provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, to both those affected and their caregivers. We are equally aware of the role the funds raised by the IG Wealth Management Walk play in allowing the Society to continue its work and why we are happy to share our journey and proud to be the Kelowna Walk Honourees this Year

This year, we will also be offering an online auction for some fabulous items donated by local businesses. The Auction will be online for the month of May. Funds raised for the Kelowna Walk will support local Alzheimer Society of B.C. programs and services, and will help enable research into the causes of and the cure for the disease.

Our goal this year is to increase the number of registered walkers from our usual 100 or so to 10x that number! Registering is easy! Simply visit walkforalzheimers.ca. You can then set up your unique fundraising page and let your friends and family know how and when you’ll be moving in May to show your support for people affected by dementia. Even a $20 donation makes a difference! Who will you walk for?
