Fully Funded Hospitality Professional Program to Support Skilled Labour Shortage in Thompson Okanagan Region

Kelowna, BC (September 22, 2022) - The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) has partnered with Okanagan College to address the major industry disruption caused by COVID-19 and the ongoing skilled labour shortage by offering training initiatives to support tourism businesses in the industry.
Through federal funding, the Hospitality Professional Program provides a fully funded and comprehensive package of training. This training will prepare participants for a variety of positions, including supervisory positions, within the hospitality sector in the Thompson Okanagan region in the interior of British Columbia. The funding will allow for delivery of 4 cohorts over the next 3 years in the Thompson Okanagan region.
The program is meant for individuals who are:
Entering the hospitality sector, bringing skills from past experience in other sectors or industries.
Current hospitality professionals looking to build on a hospitality management career by further developing skills, knowledge, and connections.
This fully funded, full-time online program will provide participants with instruction, certificates, mentorship, employment coaching, work experience, and job placement support delivered over 28 weeks. The program combines practical skills with specialized knowledge and connects students to industry employers in the Thompson Okanagan hospitality sector during the 9-week work placement component.
The 17-week certificate program will be delivered in a live, online format from October 24, 2022 to May 5, 2023. The registration deadline is October 2, 2022.
